Blurb:
Rule number one of bro-code: exes, sisters—and of course, wives—are off-limits.
Don’t think about them and sure as hell don’t kiss them.
But what if your best friend dies, and suddenly you want the woman who has always been his?
Four years ago my childhood friend lost his life serving our country, and Astrid and her kids became my responsibility.
But before I knew it, something started to shift between us.
Her smile started to make my stomach twist. Our conversations gave me something to look forward to. And working with her made me appreciate just how strong she truly was.
But then one night, I did the one thing I shouldn’t have but couldn’t fight any longer—I kissed her.
She pushed me away, told me it was a mistake, and begged me to forget it ever happened.
And then she shoved me deep and fully into the friendzone, where I’ve resided since then.
Until one instance changes everything and I know for certain she’s the woman I want.
Just when I think we’re on the same page, a secret from our past threatens to destroy our future.
I shouldn’t want my best friend’s widow. I shouldn’t care what other people think.
But in the end, the only thing that matters is being someone Astrid deserves, and I’ll stop at nothing until she believes that too.

Astrid had a dream of opening her own bakery, and she finally was making this come true. She had her kids, her brother and her mother helping her out. And her best friend, Penn.
The one guy she was attracted to, but she couldn't act on it, right. He was her husband's best friend and that would just be wrong...
Penn has been inlove with Astrid for a while now. After one kiss one drunken night and she said she wasn't ready to move on yet. But Penn is finally sorting out his life. He is going to open his own business, flipping houses. And when Astrid agrees to go on a date with someone else, he knows it's time to stake his claim... now he just needs to convince her...
I absolutely enjoyed this story.
I loved Penn. He was amazing. He became Astrid's best friend after her husband died. He spent time with the kids, helped her with the reopening of the bakery.
I loved that he was there fir the kids when they needed him. They were amazing friends. And that's what I loved, before anything happened they were friends.
The audio for this story was spot on. Aiden Snow is a favorite of mine. He was amazing bringing Penn to life and Vanessa Edwin I loved as Astrid, also becoming a new favorite of mine😊
Loved their chemistry and loved their story.

Steamy Romance Author
Harlow James is a pen name I use to protect my identity as a high school teacher. Keeping those two roles in my life separate is necessary, but also fun! It’s like a live two lives, and anonymity gives me the opportunity to be bold and take risks in my stories.
I stumbled upon romance novels in 2018 when I picked up Driven by Kristy Bromberg, and I was obsessed. I had just lost my grandmother too, so reading offered me an escape from reality and a chance to grieve on my own terms.
About a year later, I got an idea for my own book and started writing. I researched self-publishing and jumped in with both feet. I had no idea what I was doing!
But now I’ve built a business and hobby that I LOVE! I have an outlet that’s just for me. When I write, I’m not a mom, a wife, or a teacher…I’m a woman who gets to tell stories that no one else can.
My books are the perfect blend of heartwarming moments, full-bellied laughs, and PLENTY of steam to melt your Kindles 😉 And there are always elements of me sprinkled in to every character and story that I write.
When I’m not writing you can find me reading or spending time in my kitchen. I love to cook and feed my family and friends. Otherwise, you can find me watching comedy specials with my husband, camping with our kids, or taking naps. I live for naps 😉
