Back Against the Wall by Marie James

BLURB

A small town, single dad, enemies to lovers romance.

Crawling back to this small town was never in hockey star Chase Woodson’s plans.

From hitting hockey pucks in front of thousands to selling urinal pucks at his father’s hardware store, coming back home is his worst nightmare.

But being a (newly) single dad of twin boys means making sacrifices. His boys need stability and his dad needs his help in the store.

Now he needs her.

Except, Chase has been the bane of Madison Kelly’s existence since high school.

She just so happens to be the only available nanny in town.

Besides, high school was ten years ago.

People don’t hold grudges that long, right?

REVIEW

Chase went from being a famous hockey player, married with two kids. Then he lost his job and finds out his wife was cheating on him with a fellow player. Now his moved back home and working at his father’s hardware store. He also needs someone to watch his adorable twin boys as they cant keep on hanging out in the store with him. So, he hires Madison as a nanny to watch them, but Madison hates him for what reason he doesn’t know.

Madison is back home, after experiencing a terrible thing with her ex. Now she’s living at home and no job no clients no nothing. When Chase calls her she thinks his hiring her to decorate his new house, but in actual fact his looking for a nanny. But beggers can’t be choosers, so she agrees reluctantly… And she will just ignore her childhood crush she had and the attractions she is feeling now…

I enjoyed the storyline. I love a single parent romance. However… Chase I had no problems with, he was an amazing son and an amazing father to his kids. My problem was Madison.

OH MY WORD. So, Chase stood her up in high school, and yes it was probably traumatic, it was a prom. But damn woman get over it. You were engaged and yet she still held a grudge. And she was terrible with Chase in the beginning and that completely put me off her character.

I also wanted more time spent with the adorable twins. They were so freaking cute, the glimpses we did get of them. All in all, storyline good, main male character awesome, female character meh…

But I definitely would love to read the next story in this series. Maybe the sheriff…lol
